6 Projects in 6 Months Challenge

ยท 467 words ยท 3 minute read

I spent the last 10+yrs to code, and the last 4yrs in the startup ecosystem. During all that time I was focus on the product more than anything else. I need a change. I want to learn the other parts of building a product and I want something challenging!

So I decided to (try to) launch 6 products in the next 6 months!

I want to remove my developer bias ๐Ÿ”—

As a coder, you always want to build stuff. To start coding. And that’s a bad habit: as soon as you start coding something you lose your focus. You want to improve that MVP, implement a new feature, fix a bug, etcโ€ฆ

As an early-stage maker you need to focus on 2 things:

  • How much value do I bring?
  • How can I distribute that value?

The way you provide that value is secondary.

With a super strict timeframe, I will have to make some extreme choices. I’ll try to code as little as possible and spend less than 50% of my time on the product. Most of the time will be allocated to the distribution and customer feedback.

I want to test all these ideas ๐Ÿ”—

We all have ideas of business, but we all know that they worth nothing. All the value is in the execution. I want to test them, fast. To know quickly if they can make a sustainable business. Ideas have an expiration date. The faster you ship, the faster you have feedback.

And it’s ok to fail when you spend only a few weeks on a project. That’s way easier than fail 2 years’ projects!

I want to learn fast ๐Ÿ”—

All the steps of building, launching, selling, growing are super hard. Most of us are specialized in one or two steps. I want to test them all.
If I complete the challenge I’ll ship more products in 6 months than most of the entrepreneurs. I’m sure I’ll learn a lot!

The idea is to build fast, launch fast, and learn as much as possible!

We also all know that a huge percentage of the project just fails. I want to understand how to recognize a good business and what makes it works!

I want to learn from others ๐Ÿ”—

All the projects will be built in public. I lost the habit of sharing everything, I really want to do it again. To build a community but also to learn from others.

It’s incredible how many people I met since I’m a solo founder, I want to increase that leverage!

Onward! ๐Ÿ”—

I already have a few ideas on what product I’ll build. The first one is almost done and should be out in the next few days.

If you want to follow my challenge I’ll share everything on Twitter โ†’ https://twitter.com/xavier_coiffard
